Summary/Abstract: In search of a coherent method of parallel corpus’ analysis, we have presented an analysis of a French word racines as well as a Polish one korzenie (roots). The cohesion is kept in the method of linguistic analysis which includes particular levels of semantic relations (ontological, semantic, syntagmatic and pragmatic analysis) as well as in the choice of parallel corpus (the speeches of John Paul II and Benedict XVI made to the same communities). The source phrase lets us describe precisely the metaphorical use of the analysed word in two languages and show some differences in translations.
