Summary/Abstract: Since the early days of their settlement in Transylvania, the Saxons have played an importantrole in defending the southeastern and northwestern borders of the Kingdom of Hungary.This study examines the military efforts undertaken by the city of Bistrița in 1521 in the context of Belgrad crusade. The city’s expenses for paying mercenaries and covering various services necessary for preparing for the battle are discussed based on a 1521 register preserved at the National Archives– Cluj, within the archive of the city of Bistrița, in the “Accounts” series.
