Summary/Abstract: In the present paper, we first propose a brief historical context of the problem in order to capture the early oriental influences at the commercial, cultural, economic, ecclesiastical, militaryand socio-political levels of Bistrița. At the same time, we wish to reconstruct Bistrița’s relations with the oriental identity/otherness from the Romanian Revolution (1848–1849) until the end of the First World War (1918), representing a lesser-known research direction in Romanian historical writing. Here, we will insist on the analysis of some articles, church circulars, unpublished archival documents, document editions, library sheets, illustrations, works, travelogues, recipes, literary translations and local newspapers of the era. The purpose of this approach will be to see not only what these relations consisted of, how they manifested and evolved, but also to explore the various ways of receiving the elements of oriental daily life among the people of Bistrița throughout modernity.
