Summary/Abstract: By selecting characteristic examples of archaic, dialectical and lexical foreign provenance in Janko Đonović’s opus of mixed genres, we strive to show the distinctive and specific qualities lexical divergences and variations introduce to an author’s language, and how they can enrich its structure. Besides commonly-used lexemes (which are not relevant to this study), our research included archaisms that indicate the writer’s preference for Russian- Slavonic and Church-Slavonic language elements, as well as an abundance of dialecticisms of different morphological origin, which emphasize Đonović’s faithfulness to the speech of his native land (Montenegro). Also examined are foreign lexical drifts, in which the distinct presence of Oriental and Romanic language elements is evident. From our research, it can be concluded that Đonović’s lexicon is an important component of both his prose and poetry. It could initiate various forms of lexicological and lexicographical research, as well as analyses in the field of morphology and the morphological abilities of languages.
