Summary/Abstract: The Muhammad Ali effect was verified for 124 teenagers, highschool students. Moreover, using a 2×2 mixt experimental design, the present study showed that Muhammad Ali effect is very strong and it is present in various social settings regardless of comparison reference (self vs. other). Also, as expected, the Muhammad Ali effect was present only in comparison with non-significant others (general social categories) and not in comparison with significant others. The results are consistent with cognitive theories related to social information processing of prototypes and exemplars; also our results show some aspects related to social comparison and attribution.
