Summary/Abstract: Just a few months ago a new platform emerged demonstrating how video content could be generated from the so-called artificial intelligence (AI) – Sora. Like the previous ones for images, it generates video only from text prompts. Although it is still on demo mode and it is not open for public experiments, the new platform sparkled again emotional comments about how this time ‘the end of the video era’ is coming, as there were many for images and all visual art in general. For everyone well acquainted with the history of cinema, this is just another ‘déjà vu’. Since cinema was born people are predicting its disappearance – from Lumiere, through sound appearance to video-digital and internet technologies, VR and 3D, now AI. Before Sora the so-called deepfake technology was widely discussed as a new thread for authenticity and propaganda, as we witnessed numerous deepfake videos of some of the most influential politicians. The following paper carefully analyses all potential problems and characteristics of these video simulations, which I believe is the proper term to be used, what are the historical genesis of the manipulations and propaganda in cinema in general, what are the possible uses of these new algorithms that gained the reputation of artificial intelligence and future opportunities for artists and cinema.
