Summary/Abstract: After a six-year hiatus, the 20th Canon Law Symposium was held in Spišská Kapitula, attracting church court judges and canon law experts from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The event, under the patronage of the Apostolic See since its inception in 1991, began with a welcome from Bishop František Trstenský and Archbishop Bernard Bober. Highlights included lectures on the history of the symposium, lay responsibility in church governance, and international legal protection of freedom of conscience. Despite some absences due to health issues, the symposium featured insightful presentations on criminal policy, evidence in marriage cases, and the role of faith in marital consent. Participants also toured the cathedral and library, attended a pontifical Mass, and enjoyed a celebratory dinner in Levoča. The symposium concluded with discussions on the moral certainty in legal judgments and the evolving role of priests in Christian marriages. The event was praised for its well-balanced program and the opportunity for informal networking.
