Summary/Abstract: In Poland, just like in many other countries, a lot of socio-professional groups use privileged pension systems. Persons belonging to these groups may retire on more advantageous conditions, receive higher retirement benefits or pay lower contributions. The notion of solidarity is an issue that is often raised during debates on any changes to such pension systems. Persons who are in favour of leaving the status quo refer to the necessity of solidarity with these groups. Perhaps, however, one should look differently at the privileges of these groups. Perhaps, it is these privileges that breach the principles of solidarity, which demands that individuals should take into account the community’s interest.
