European Union funds in farms as an important element of sustainable development of rural areas in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Agriculture as a sector is particularly vulnerable to negative behaviour which may affect sustainable development of rural areas. Agriculture is based on the use of natural resources to feed the population and to provide agricultural producers with appropriate income. Due to considerable funds which are provided by the European Union to all farms, both those which operate only to generate non-production benefits (direct payments, insurance in KRUS) as well as those which develop dynamically, Polish farms can be regarded as complying with the principles of sustainable development.
