Summary/Abstract: When discussing the determinants of the socioeconomic growth of Poland, special attention has been dedicated to the Szczawno-Zdrój spa. The natural environment of Szczawno-Zdrój was the subject of detailed research as an important determinant of the possibilities and restraints regarding the town’s growth. The condition of the natural environment is crucial. Spa tourism provides a specific contribution to the global domestic product and opens up new job possibilities. It has the potential to change social structures, influence the economy and improve the quality of life. An increasing number of countries choose to support the development of the tourist sector, in its general sense. In a time when unemployment in the world is on the rise, the tourist sector is an opportunity for the development of areas with the necessary natural resources and different attractions. One might say that spa towns serve as a flywheel for local and regional economy, and as a good example for the development of the whole tourist sector.
