Summary/Abstract: In this interview dr. Jasser Auda, renown scholar of Islamic law and ethics explaines the meaning of the term „meqasida“ in Islamic tradition. According to his opinion, the theory of meqasida is deeply rooted in the Islamic tradition and it reaches all the way back to the Messenger s.w.s., and lately it has been revived as an essential dimension of Islamic law. The theory of „meqasida“ promotes the significance of the context in all the cases that are in the centre of Islamic law. That context implies a valid interpretation of the Revelation and the Sunnah, but also an insight into the spirit of a time, customs of a community, as well as an intention of an individual.
