Relation towards founders who provide the archive a space of work and storage

Summary/Abstract: According to the Croatian law, the archives are public institutions the founders of which, that is, cities and towns are obliged to provide space for work and storage areas, unlike it was in the previous times when founders of archives provided not only areas for work and storage, but also financial resources and participated in the archival council, so they were familiar with all problems facing the archives. State Archives in Varazdin has premises in three cities, the City of Varazdin is the founder of the archives in Varazdin, the City of Koprivnica is the founder of Archival Intermediate Repository Koprivnica and the Town of Krapina Archival Intermediate Repository Krapina. The situation with the space is different in every city and according to the experience of the State Archives in Varazdin, the kind of storage areas the City has given to the Archives shows its attitude towards current records. Considering the fact that it is very difficult to work with them and because of the big storage areas for which the Archives is responsible and limited number of archive staff responsible for supervision of record offices, we have not managed to carry out more frequent inspections, but we hope that with more frequent inspections of cities’ record offices we shall be able to bring them in order.
