The Feast of Feasts ”Chantments from the Plovdiv “Zion” synagogue

Summary/Abstract: Every Friday, solemn chants are sung in the synagogue. They are easy to memorize and can be performed by everyone present. My first participation in the service provoked many questions: What is the holiday? Should we, when analyzing the musical material that accompanies it, proceed from our knowledge of folklore patterns and look for signs of oral culture in it? Is it appropriate to use the criteria that we apply when working with Bulgarian folk songs for these chants? This material is part of a larger work, for this reason I present here the order of the service and the musical text of the chants that accompany it.
