Defects of passive safety system resulting in decreased passenger protection

Summary/Abstract: In the paper an attempt has been made to evaluate the effectiveness of solutions employed by supplemental restraint system manufacturers in the context of an accident during which the electrical wiring of the vehicle was damaged. The reasons of incomplete deployment of restraints were analyzed and conclusion was drawn that it was caused by inadequate protection of the system components from unwanted, transient voltage levels that may appear in the wiring during a crash sequence.
