Statehood of Vojvodina and Possibility of Secession

Summary/Abstract: The text is a critique/analysis of the Draft Statute of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. This Draft gives Vojvodina, which has regional autonomy, certain attributes of statehood and sovereignty. We are particularly concerned about the way regional administrative districts are territorially organized. Magyars will thus have an ethnically-based district whose seat is in Subotica. If this Statute is adopted, there will be two dangerous possibilities – the possibility of creating the state of Vojvodina within the state of Serbia and the possibility of secession of the Subotica District, likely to be followed by the secession of Vojvodina.
