Summary/Abstract: An objective of a foreign language class is to support the students to acquire/develop language learning and using strategies. A second reason why a teacher should allow some of the course time for enlarging the learners’ portfolio of language strategies is that it may help them to increase their future independence as language learners. In the author’s educational context – teaching an English for Specific Purposes module to engineering sophomores, certain innovative elements were exploited to enhance the teacher’s efficiency in attaining the course objectives: the learners’ profile as Computer Science students, the teaching/learning environment and the teacher’s IT connected skills. The experimental module taught is described with a focus on the way a range of IT means were used. The approach may lead to increasing the students’ potential of becoming autonomous learners. The experience can be further improved and extended to other educational contexts.
