Summary/Abstract: PGI (Personal Globe Inventory; Tracey 2002) is the measure of professional interests for work activities, perception of competencies and preferences for particular occupations. This instrument was designed based on the research of the spherical model of professional interests (Tracey, 1997; Tracey and Rounds, 1996). PGI enables users to generate complex and flexible information about client’s interests in specific vocational areas. Holland’s hexagonal model (1997) of professional interests has been dominant in the researches of vocational interests for the past 30 years. Holland proposed the six basic types of interests which are presented in hexagonal structure. Tracy and Rounds (1996) proposed additional dimension – prestige. Tracy developed the spherical model of interests which includes basic Prediger’s dimensions people – things and data – ideas and dimensions of prestige and which incorporates Holland’s types too. The main goal of this research was assessment of convergent validity of the PGI (adapted by Šverko, 2008) with Questionnaire of professional interests and preferences constructed on Holland’s theory (proMENTE,2004). The participants were 317 elementary school students in their senior year before starting high school education. MPMM matrix for PGI scales indicates that there is moderately high convergent validity among scales which measure the same trait (correlations between 0,4 and 0,57). The correlations of discriminant validity are relatively high which indicates the common method bias and insufficient differentiation of interests in this age group, probably due to the lack of systematic career counseling activities in the schools. The correlations between corresponding scales on two measures are also moderately high. Since PGI is much more detailed and flexible, with additional analysis, especially for Enterprising type, it might be used as better tool than previously used Questionnaire of professional interests and preferences for career counseling in the schools.
