Man as an Asocial Being
Author(s): Maria SzyszkowskaSubject(s): Philosophy
Published by: Stowarzyszenie Filozofów Krajów Słowiańskich
Summary/Abstract: The author’s considerations refer to the anti-social character of human nature. The authority of Aristotle led to the understanding of man as a social entity. This influenced the views of both Marx and Thomas Aquinas, the systems of these philosophers having the nature of mass impact. As a result, the stereotype of the social nature of man gained universal acceptance. What is absurd is that this opinion is intertwined with the criticism of the pacifist attitudes. According to the author, the wars that invariably accompany mankind are an expression of lack of social instincts in man. The sense has not been produced that every man is a piece of humanity.
