Summary/Abstract: The author attempts to complement the traditional sociological model of studying migration – the theory of pushing and pulling factors – with analysis of the social networks and their role for recruitment and realization of the mass Bulgarian Roma labour migration abroad during the last years. The purpose of the article is to present a more precise and detailed picture of the Bulgarian Roma emigration. It is based on an analysis of statistical data and representative surveys data, on qualitative surveys, conducted since 2001, regarding the emigration attitudes and practices among the Roma. An estimation of the range and the destinations of Roma emigration is made. The main reasons for emigration among this community are analyzed.
