Formation of educational policy for integration of children and schoolchildren of the roma ethnic minority

Summary/Abstract: The article aims to elucidate the situation and trends regarding the most problematic issue in the national education system: the education of Roma children of the separate Roma neighbourhoods throughout the country; specifically the following aspects are discussed: • the policy for desegregation of their education and implementation problems in specific localities; • the imprecise criteria applied in the recent past for enrollment in schools for mentally disabled children, and some ideas on how this can be overcome; • identifying and analyzing certain ethno-cultural causes for dropping out of school and measures for possible solutions of the problem; • preserving and developing the ethno-cultural identity of Roma children in the context of attendance of optionally chosen classes in Roma language and Roma folklore. The conclusions and recommendations in the article are aimed at improving the work of educationalists with this contingent of Bulgarian children.
