SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSPORT IN URBAN AREAS

Summary/Abstract: The implementation of sustainable development requires solving a number of transport problems. The development of transport has to be considered in the context of re¬quirements of land use, spatial distribution of various types of economic activities and restric¬tions resulted from the environment protection regulations. The article concentrates on a new approach to transport development in urban areas and discusses trends in transport planning, with particular emphasis on integrated planning. Mobility management and the control of mo¬bility are essential tools of the urban transport policy, so the article presents selected methods of the transport demand management and instruments that affect more efficient use of existing infrastructure.
