Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the changes in the approach to the role of transport in theories and concepts of regional development. The review covers location theories, the concept of “big push”, theories based on trade, territorial systems of production, polarization theories, the new economic geography, theories and concepts of development based on knowledge and innovation and regional endogenous growth theory. These theories take into account various aspects of transport and the mechanisms that are referred to the impact of transport on regional development. Finally, the paper presents reference to theoretical concepts in contemporary regional policy.
