Summary/Abstract: The concept of pluralism, or that of linguistic and cultural pluralism, is one of the values promoted by the European Union. These values are not only mentioned in the Union’s treaties, policies and official documents, but also asserted, implemented and periodically evaluated. As in other key sectors of European construction, the Union would like to shift from the discourse level to a greater awareness and implementation of these values and principles. However, in order to reach its objectives, the Union needs its citizens. How do citizens, and especially young people, understand the concept of pluralism, mainly the concept of linguistic and cultural pluralism, is always a persistent question. Are they aware of the opportunities brought by the “young European citizen” statute? The European Union represents a new model of institutional organisation, where the success of any project relies not only on the supranational or national institutions and on the political leaders, but is also the responsibility of citizens. We are the ones who can promote and implement these values and principles in our daily life or in our profession. In order to illustrate the above mentioned, in the end, the paper is going to present the perspective on the Erasmus Programme of several students from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.
