Summary/Abstract: In Europe, the EU and NATO remain fundamentally different types of organizations, bringing different strengths and resources to solve any given security problem. The necessity of deepened co-operation between these institutions, since 21 of the 27 member countries of the EU are also members of NATO, would become more a rule, rather than the exception.
