Summary/Abstract: Numerous researchers investigated the relationship between personal autonomy and age. The results obtained are different, depending on the samples of subjects used and also on the assessment instruments employed. Most of the studies showed a development of the personal autonomy during aging, throughout the adolescence. In this research we followed the variation depending on age of four dimensions of personal autonomy (cognitive, behavioral, emotional and value autonomy), assessed with the help of the AP Questionnaire. The subject sample was composed of 1075 persons aged between 14 and 25 years, most of them students or undergraduates. We noticed that all the dimensions of the personal autonomy develop between 14 and 25 years old. Jet, the increases are not significant between 17 and 19 years old and between 20 and 25 years old. For boys, between the groups of extreme age (14 years old and 20 to 25 years old) grows significantly only the average of the scores of the scale of Value Autonomy. For girls, between the groups of extreme age differ significantly the averages of all scales of the AP Questionnaire. At boys, the averages of all scales increase between 15 and 16 years, then they drop within the period of 17 to 19 years. The increase of the averages is significant for Cognitive, Behavioral and Value Autonomy, and the dropping of the averages is significant for Cognitive and Value Autonomy.
