State tourism policy in the context of the strategic priorities of the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The Treaty of Lisbon and strategic EU documents significantly determine the tourism policy of both the Union and the Member States. Tourism becomes one of the areas supported, coordinated or supplemented by the EU decision-making centers. Under the Treaty of Lisbon EU activities focus on encouraging the creation of a favorable environment for business development in the tourism sector and promotion of cooperation among the Member States, in particular through the sharing of good practice.
