Summary/Abstract: The present paper is an attempt to systematize the linguistic means for apologizing in modern Bulgarian. According to the typology proposed by Renate Rathmayr the Bulgarian apologies are divided in two main groups: explicit and implicit ones. A detailed description of the use of apologies depending on the social roles of interlocutors is also provided in the paper.
