Summary/Abstract: The subject-matter of the article is a semantic layer of selected works (Dukla, Going to Babadag, Galician stories) by Andrzej Stasiuk, a contemporary Polish writer, the landmark of which is, according to the author of the article, the presence of colour-related vocabulary. This insatiation of a meaning layer of particular works with colour lexis constitutes a kind of evidence of experiencing and perceiving the world (in the sense the cognitive linguistics gives to the words “experience” and “perception”) through the angle of colours. The analysis of this group of lexis in particular works (a black-grey-white tonality or the opposition of greyness and multicolour dominates) allows for recognising several functions the very group performs. The very lexis coexists in both creating various aspects of the world presented in works, and constitutes an important element of the image of Central-Eastern Europe in Stasiuk’s works.
