Summary/Abstract: The article poses a question concerning the influence of the style of the books that have been granted with “Nike” Literary Award upon the development of artistic language, subjecting the style of Andrzej Stasiuk’s Jadąc do Badagag (On the Road to Babadag) to further consideration. The author of the present article is convinced that the style of the writer has been significantly influenced by the genre of the literary work (travel journal), while its characteristic features (mutual permeation of sacrum and profanum) are shaped in those parts of the text which are of descriptive and contemplative character. These entireties typically take the form of poetic “portraits” of the places (cities) through which the writer travels. They contain an artistic vision reflecting the way of experiencing genius loci of a particular space, and therefore reflecting the way of its individual perception, experience, and the most intimate relationships with it. The author claims that currently it is difficult to predict whether Stasiuk’s style will find a permanent place on the map of styles of Polish literature, simultaneously reminding that today he sounds a voice that is highly original in Polish essayistics.
