Summary/Abstract: The consequences of the serial work migration phenomenon represent a topic of great interest and debate in the last decade in Romania, due to the problems associated with it, especially in the case children and adolescents left home by their parents. The statistics on this subject indicate greater emotional and behavioral problems of children and adolescents who are in this situation. This paper aims to reveal the particularities of the adolescents’ emotional development in the situation of the temporary absence of one parent. Two samples - one consisting of 96 students, aged between 12 and 17 years, in the condition of temporary separation, and the other of 133 students raised by both parents - completed a set of inventories designed to measure self-esteem in the social domain, feelings of loneliness and depression. The results indicate lower levels of self-esteem and higher levels of loneliness for the adolescents that are separated from their parents, compared to the participants raised in whole families (both parents present). The discussion of the results emphasizes the importance of an emotionally based intervention for children and adolescents affected by incomplete parenting.
