Summary/Abstract: The wide, complex and original work of Maurice Chappaz (1916–2009) may be easily approached from the point of view of identity issue. Identity is closely related to a major coordinate of existence, the space. The space is for Maurice Chappaz an accumulation of senses that must be deciphered, known and understood. It is a book that is written by a subject who justifies by his writing the sense of existence and the membership to a space (landscape, earth, homeland, country). In the prose and poetry pages of the Swiss Romand author, one outlines a poetry of the identity space, category that enriches the typology of space in literature and enlarges our research regarding the identity and its dynamics in the European francophone literature as well.
