PROBLEMS ON COMPILATION OF THE ALBANIAN TERMINOLOGICAL DICTIONARIES

Summary/Abstract: The Albanian terminological lexicon is studied from the point of view of the autochthonous basis on which it is constructed. In nowadays it functions as a sustainable and homogenous system. The whole lexical system is raised as an organized one and it helps to express the concepts of this lexicon in question, starting from the simplest forms coming from antiquity, up to the most complicated ones created under the influence of internal and external linguistic factors. For these reasons, this lexicon is analyzed based on its way of development, in its non-terminological and pre-terminological phases reflected in the Albanian dictionaries, until it starts becoming a system and later on, it is crystallized and formatted as a system during the terminological phase (reflected in the genuine terminological dictionaries such as: “Dictionary of Basic Terms of Agriculture” (2006). It is generally accepted that terminology as special lexicon is to be regarded as a system of terms that represents a system of concepts of a field of knowledge. The observation of this system of terms that corresponds to the system of concepts of the respective field of knowledge, based on the relationships among them makes the theory of terminology and its principles and methods fundamental. The wholeness of these systems of terms that correspond to the systems of concepts of respective fields composes the terminology in the broad meaning of the word. Hence it follows that the relationship set among the terms constitute the basis of studying for each terminology of a field of knowledge and of the. The systematic study of the terminology gives positive results of special value both during the work of the elaboration of the terminology and in its reflection in the dictionary. Firstly, the most essential result relates to the presentation of the term in an identified way. Thus the dictionary avoids the multiform state of the terminology, reflected in the literature of every field in the form of doublet terms, by selecting and recommending the appropriate term. Secondly, through the presentation in the system there is achieved a better differentiation and identification of the concepts, by increasing the accuracy of the terms that denote the respective concepts. Thirdly, it has been aimed at distinguishing the term clearly and transparently, while still preserving its accuracy. The aim for a conceptual clarity and transparency of the term through the increase of the linguistic motivation has led to the preference for the Albanian terms being introduced as primary in comparison with foreign ones which are given as secondary or may be left out of the dictionary. Based on this experience, the work in the future must focus on the creation of a powerful databank from all the materials circulating in different fields in Albanian terminology (about 1 million units.)
