Summary/Abstract: Teacher motivation in contemporary society determines learner achievement as well as the change in the whole society. Therefore, it is important to choose a profession properly and meet expectations that are set for prospective teachers. The choice of profession is affected by a number of factors: certain needs, inclinations and interests, aptitude and intellect, character and temperament, purposes and value orientations. Human professional activity outcomes depend on person’s approach to the chosen profession and motivation of its choice. Teacher profession distinguishes itself from all others by its social and personal importance as it is meant to educate and nurture a person for all professions and specialities, positions and capacities. The article aims to investigate motivation to enter Vilnius Pedagogical University, finding out if the choice of university reflects the entrants’ pedagogical purposefulness, and research the change in prospective teacher learning motivation during pedagogical studies.
