Does a Normative Word Formation Exist?

Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the question raised in the title in the context of the latest word formation trends, detailed writings and the present politics of correctness. She reckons that the normative activity which refers to word formation is not based on true enough, contemporary theories. They need to be revised due to the necessity to consider a double level norm with new techniques of foreign words' absorption and the need to redefine sub-criteria which together form a system criterion. Without consideration of these factors, decisions concerning correctness in word formation may rely only on the researchers' intuition.
