Summary/Abstract: In this paper preservationmetadata are interpreted as structured information that support and document preservation of digital objects. At first,significant international researchprojects that consider preservation metadata as important componentsof long term preservation strategy of digital objects are mentioned,thenthecurrentpractices of individual nationaldepositcentersconcerning the development and implementation of preservation metadataschemesare discussed.Conclusion indicates therepresentative upcomingchallenges of preservation metadata.
