Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to outline English for science and technology as an object of study for discourse analysis. Its purpose is to summarize the main directions in discourse analysis focused on EST. The conclusion such outline bring is that in the past fifty years, the discourse studies have moved from a rather intuitive notion of the discourse of science and technology to an attempt to focus on narrower sections of the language in use of different science disciplines and professional/research contexts.
