Summary/Abstract: This article analyses in detail the definitions and features of the concept of discourse. It studies the role of context in the interpretation of language in use, as well as the various interpretations of context such as social, spatial and temporal or linguistic, i.e. co-text. The notion of structure is seen here as another constitutive principle of the concept of discourse. Discourse structure is analysed in terms of general features as well as from the point of view of particular types of discourse. Finally, text is presented as the most observable and analyzable product of discourse.
