Summary/Abstract: The strategy of church figurines and the republican fever of the crowd In the light of the current events the atmosphere in the church was becoming increasingly heated. The town was overcome by a revolutionary spirit and the church figurines, afraid for their lives, were planning a strategy. Unfortunately, they could not count on the rector of the parish who had hastily fled from this turbulent place dressed as a woman. The vision of fire scared the blameless wooden sculptures of saints and other characters that had been sacred to religion. “Before, there was no talk of the republic. There was order and discipline. Today, however, the young ones have alarmingly too much freedom. And it is plain that they are going in the wrong direction”, sermonised Gottfried, the stern bishop, while Saint Polonia nodded in agreement. “When I recall the times of the Inquisition I am overtaken by a longing for the past. Everything was right then. Do you remember, Polonia, those stakes, the aromas of grilled heretics, roasted pagans and Jews in the pot?” the all-knowing martyr was clearly in a state of bliss. In the meantime, Saint Liborius who was leading the debate informed all the gathered figurines that the country had split into the defenders and the opponents of the republic. Obviously Gottfried was the first to become enthusiastic about the advantages of the rebellion which administered the blade of justice against the morally corrupt republic. A concordant choir sounded from behind him. Regrettably, the choir members were in the republican sector and, by the force of events, were compelled to silence. A proposal was put forward to bring about a miracle, but this was overruled due to the lengthy formal process. What else was there to do for the poor figurines that decorated the town’s church? Aloud with revolutionary slogans, the crowd rushed into the Lord’s house. And it became speechless.
