Summary/Abstract: The article presents a summary of Max Weber’s and Georg Simmel’s reflections on city. These are particulary close to contemporary development of urban anthropology and sociology. Reinterpretation of issues connected with urban organization, its relations with institutional order as well as space and traffic in a city and the urban proxemic influence on social life play here a crucial role. Moreover, the presence of all these aspects prove that the urban sociology classics can be an important source of inspiration for urban studies, considering their eclecticism, methodological openness and flexibility in prospective research.
