Summary/Abstract: The text is a review article of Giorgio Agamben’s Homo sacer. The author discusses the categories of sacred life, purity and profanation, introduced by Agamben, in order to reconstruct his idea to confront contemporary developments in the sphere of political power with classical theological and legal concepts. She continues by criticizing Agamben’s views, focusing on his understatements regarding the function of science and technology in modern world, his narrow and abstract understanding of culture as well as out-of-date vision of politics.
