Summary/Abstract: Johann Eberhard Fischer, author of the ”Vocabularium Sibiricum”, is usually named among those who collected specimens of Finno-Ugric languages in Russia during the 18th century – like Messerschmidt, Müller, Tatiščev and others. It is shown in this paper that Fischer copied the specimens of Müller in St. Petersburg before departing for the Second Kamtchatka Expedition. There is no reason to regard him as an important collector of Finno-Ugric material.
