Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the prototypal image of the hero, from the combined viewpoints of literature and psychoanalysis. The hero impersonates the unknown and the unspoken, through his experiences, both conscious and unconscious, sometimes repressed or dictated by culture, sometimes nourished by primeval emotions. The conceptual relationship between the domains of psychoanalysis and literary theory supplies the instruments for the comprehension of the “phenomenologies” and manifestations of the hero as processes of identity construction.
