Summary/Abstract: The educational reform, implemented in Poland since 1999, concerns the structure and the curriculum. As a result, the following types of schools have been established: the 6–year primary school, the 3–year middle school (gimnazjum) and the 3–year secondary school. For the first time since the war teachers themselves can not only choose from amongst numerous syllabuses1 one on the basis of which they will work, but they can also write their own syllabuses. The most significant advantage of the curricular reform is the change concerning the repertory of set books, thanks to which tendentious texts have been removed from the textbooks for the Polish language education. With the new selections, textbooks no longer constitute ideological tools.
