Summary/Abstract: Aim of the research under discussion: describe function of regional education based on literary and para- literary texts published in contemporary Polish handbooks (for primary schools and gimnazyum). The aims of the Polish reformed school’s core curriculum, which have been highlighted in the recent years, point to regional education. It is a specific form of cultural heritage, connected with local communities, particular circles and their living space, associated with homely warmth and “little homeland”. The analysis of the handbook texts proves that the handbook “regional genres” legends, traditions and fairy tales, concerning topics of space, heroes and moral- ethic level, also fulfil three aims – they promote cognitive, educational and aesthetic values. Most of them are connected with emotional function, patriotism and integration of the nation. Methodology: culture studies, literary critics.
