Summary/Abstract: Today Banat appears as an ethnic, cultural and religious mosaic, due to the policy pursued in the Middle Ages by the Hungarian kings who aimed to catholicize the province and organized a Catholic diocese. In the eighteenth century, after the conquest of Banat by the Habsburgic Empire, Mercy’s plan was put into practice and they realized significant settlements, which led to consequences at the economic, political and cultural level and led to a strengthening of Catholicism in Banat.
