Summary/Abstract: The rapid spread of Christianity in the Romanian space, after the retrait of the Roman army and administration from Dacia, led to the creation of a diocese in Morisena. In the begining of the XI century, after the conquest of Banat county, the king of Hungary, Stefan the first,, has transformed the ortodox monastery from Morisena into a Catholic diocese. It began a a policy of catholicization. Under these conditions, Banat became the place of confrontation between Catholicism and Orthodoxy.
