Summary/Abstract: The author presents, in this article, the philosophical views on state and law, on the power and political values regulating society, held by Vasile Goldiş – one of the masterminds of the Great Union of December 1, 1918, by the agency of which the national unitary Romanian state was forged, a great multivalent thinker and scholar, attached to the universal values of culture and civilization, to the fundamental rights of people and peoples. From a humanistic philosophical, rationalistic and praxeological position, Goldiş developed an outlook on political power, state and rights, based on his vast knowledge of culture, history, economy, sociology, law, and theology, on the analysis of the real situation of peoples and nations in his time – whether in Europe or other parts of the planet, and on the use of interdisciplinary measures throughout his entire work. His option for a democratic, sovereign, independent, constitutional state, of a social-Christian tradition, which would guarantee human rights regardless of group-related particularities, for humanistic, just and equitable practices in politics, law, administration and education, pertains to a transient, objectively determined historical era. According to the principle of historicity, the nation-state shall integrate itself into more complex, better-knit formations (such as the creation of the United States of Europe), in order to meet the needs of people and peoples, until a universal state is attained.
