Summary/Abstract: Once flourishing, the Jewish community of Târgu Neamþ numbers today less than 40 members. Mostly the result of immigration, with many remaining foreign subjects throughout their lifetime, the Jewish population of the small Moldavian town managed to stand out through its commercial and crafting skills, which led to a fierce competition with the local merchants and craftsmen. Sometimes increasing and sometimes decreasing in numbers, Jews were a constant presence in the town’s life until the end of World War II. Following the Holocaust (which did not affect them to a large extent) and the installation of the communist regime, most of them decided to leave for Israel, leaving behind a wonderful heritage that is slowly disappearing.
