Summary/Abstract: The club appeared in the urban space as a form of modern sociability. As an institution of British origin, the club was imitated throughout Europe starting in the beginning of 19th century. In the modern club, aristocracy was replaced with plebeian elites, especially from the business world and the liberal professions. In Iaşi, the most representative club was the Jockey Club; but apart from this other clubs existed, namely the Military, Concordia, and Tennis Club.
