Summary/Abstract: The ability to successful communication between speakers, by means of their mother tongues or of foreign languages or cultures, is built on background knowledge. Through elaboration and awareness creation of language facts and facts concerning regional studies – in contrastive, intercultural and cross-linguistic investigations, for example – this knowledge can be complemented and completed. In order to examine and present relevant aspects in this context, phrasemes also must be considered, since they provide contextual knowledge. In the literature one can often find statements that, in spite of the postulated national-cultural characteristics or individual language specificity of the phraseological inventory, phrasemes are not infrequently expressing universality and interlinguality.
